You sure have seen this post. It has spread like wildfire over the past few days so I doubt there is any artist out there who hasn’t seen it. But even if you didn’t, you should read on because I’m about to tell you a handy little thing that can help you to protect your art from such assholes as the anon who submitted this bullcrap, as well as art thieves in general.

The magic word is Metadata.

Metadata is like an invisible signature that is embeded into a file. It can contain all kinds of information, like Title, date, keywords for online seach engines, and copyright information. And the best thing is, since this information is “hidden” in the code of your picture, it’s hard to remove it.

There is a nice basic tutorial on how to add Metadata, or “additional file information” to your images in photoshop. It’s really, really easy so check it out!

“Adding Your Contact And Copyright Info To Your Photos With Photoshop” on PhotoshopEssentials.com

I’m not sure if you can do the same with any other art program. If you know how to do this in other programs / can confirm that it works the same way there, please tell me so I can add the information to this post.

Adding the Metadata will not stop idiots from taking and reposting your art. It also won’t make them stop editing out your signature. It WILL however, help you prove that you are the original artist whenever you have to.
Always remember my friends. You, the artist, are protected by law. No one has the right to take your intellectual property and hard work and repost, use or edit it without your permission. Ever.

art thief: well how can you prove its yours??

I spread the word as it is important to all artist who ever suffered from art thieving or so.

You guys, metadata is super important, you guys. In an everday and legal sense. People legitimately look at and rely on metadata to know the basic, but important bits of information about a digital product (paintings, photographs, exe files, etc.), ESPECIALLY the source.

Don’t underestimate it!

Hey, @the-pastel-peach, would this maybe be useful?

Spread positivity. Give your heart.

Mark and his family need the love.

Keep the tag shining bright. All the love <3

Yes let’s please focus on spreading positivity and love right now. I know there are some people out there who want to be mean and spread hate, but we shouldn’t be focusing on them or giving them a single thought. What’s important is giving support to Mark and his family.

If you would report an undocumented immigrant to ICE you would have reported me to the Nazis and I don’t fucking trust you

A note:

I live in a state where you “have to” report anyone you suspect of being undocumented (that wonderful hellhole of Arizona). Now in practice this law has fallen far short, thank goodness. But if you live in such a place and they start enforcing it, here is how you get around it:

Assume everyone who doesn’t speak English is visiting.

Never ask about their job, because if they tell you they work here then you know they’re not visiting. You see them a lot for several weeks or months? Hm. Someone in the family must be ill. That’s terribly tough. They always dress in old, ratty laborers’ clothes? I feel you, my dude, I can’t afford new clothes either, and my dad has the fashion sense of an aardvark, so sometimes it’s not even about “affording” them. They say they’ve been here for years? You must have misunderstood. Spanish isn’t your first language, after all. First and last name? It never came up, or you don’t recall–you meet a lot of people.

And then, if you’re asked: no, you haven’t seen anyone residing illegally in the United States. Just people visiting.

Very good very important addition

“What? Are you telling me a bear is my favourite niece??” He knelt down to check, dramatically gasping when he spotted a familiar face. “Dawn!!” Without warning, he scooped her into his arms and rose back to his feet.

Now, William spent years in the military. He was good at following a long list of instructions. But the more Mary spoke, the more he wondered if he was out of his depth agreeing to this alone. The poor Colonel blinked with wide eyes as some snippets sank in. The doctor’s phone number? Accidents can happen? Separation anxiety?? Why did Damien not warn him of any of this when he asked for William’s help?!

“I, uh… Great!” That was totally the right answer. “I think I got that. Besides, it’s only for the weekend. I think we can manage.” Hopefully.

Mary gave him the list and suitcase, Dawn happily wiggled in her uncle’s arms. “Well, I did write everything down on the list. Good luck. Bye William, Bye Dawn.” Dawn smiled and waved bye. “Bhy Buy!” Mary left the pair alone having a feeling she’ll be back to help William. Dawn was still excited. She squimed in William’s grasp, She wanted to look around his apartment. He always had cool stuff from all his adventures! She giglged happily.

Honest Posters of Our Relationship with Technology

Designer Ajit Johnson, living in England, has imagined a series of posters called “#This_Generation”. With honesty, the posters show anecdotes linked to our daily relationship with technology and social networks.

image

No one thinks selfie sticks are cool except tourists and rich white girls at the club.

Ok, normally I just roll my eyes and scroll past these, but this time I felt the need to comment:

1. Hiding porn on your computer? Wow, previous generations never did anything like that. Nobody ever hid adult magazines under their bed so much that it became a trope in movies. Nah. Never.

2. Online/skype date? Yeah, you can talk face-to-face with the people that matter to you even when you can’t get out to meet them physically, isn’t that amazing?

3. If I was lost and dying out in the wilderness somewhere, and I saw some… I dunno, some outpost that had wifi for some reason, you bet your ass I’d get tf over there and use it to get help/use a map/tell people where I am.

4. Did you know you can read books on your smartphone/tablet AS WELL AS being actively social??

5. I’m pretty sure technology is not to blame for kids getting pregnant/overweight/depressed. Side note, isn’t it great that those kids can use the internet to search for help and advice?

6. In a world where everyone is so much more connected thanks to social media, it’s really useful that you can block people who hurt you and protect yourself. I don’t really see the downside here.

7. It ain’t technology’s fault that some asswipes use their phone while driving. Just let those schoolkids text their parents to tell them when they’re gonna get home in peace.

8. Yeah, selfie sticks aren’t cool. But it IS cool that people can save their memories in pictures and photo albums at the click of a button, without needing to buy cameras and film, get the film developed, and then have big ol’ photo albums sitting around the house everywhere?

9. I swear nobody’s typed like that since 2009. But hey, culture, slang and dialect change with times regardless of whether it’s spoken or typed.

10. You’re right, poster. Happiness is being able to chat to your family and friends no matter the distance. Especially when they’re online and able to respond quickly. That’s nice.

#SaveTheTrees

I feel like an important message is trying to be communicated to me but I have no idea what it is

Our forests are being cut down 3x faster than they can grow! One acre of hemp produces as much cellulose fiber pulp as 4.1 acres of trees!!! This is super useful for so many things, especially paper production! In addition, hemp takes in carbon dioxide 4x as fast as trees do, which makes it especially valuable in the act of reducing CO2 emissions/greenhouse gases! 🌲🌲🌲 source

#the scope of the anti-hemp conspiracy in the united states is terrifying once you start doing research tbh#like it was initially smeared/banned bc lumber lobbyists pushed for it to be…#and a major smear tactic was to associate it with black people#who now a hundred years later are the ones primarily being imprisoned for it#and the plant itself has now been inextricably linked to the drug so people won’t even allow for it to be grown for commercial purposes#like paper making (via literallyfuckeveryone)

Important reminder that industrial hemp can’t be used as a recreational drug, so if anyone tries to pull that card you can just stop them then and there. There are no real arguments against using industrial hemp, even if you’re rigidly against the legalization of any recreational drugs.

AYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY I never see pro-hemp on my dash, woo!

Usually the argument on why you can’t have hemp is because then people will hide marijuana in it.

yeah, sure…. if they want shitty, shitty marijuana.

It would be like growing sweet corn and dent corn together.  Yeah, they look similar at a distance and they’re closely related, but you don’t want them next to each other as they’ll cross pollinate and you’ll end up with bad versions of both.

Same deal here.  a patch of marijuana grown in an open field of hemp IS going to get contaminated and it’ll lower quality of BOTH crops.  Your hemp farmer doesn’t want that and if likely going rip out any patches trespassers try to add for same reason.

and the big issue is not even the THC content.  Because most quality marijuana is intended to be grown indoors or greenhouses, its a dwarf variety. Short.  Fiber hemp is bred for height so as to maximize fiber production.  super tall. It’s going to be really obvious, really fast if you’ve got both in the same field even before you get to the point of pollination. what’s this runty bullshit doing in my field?

They also have different growing needs with regards to spacing, harvest time, etc. so the argument that you can hide marijuana in industrial hemp fields are basically bullshit.

anyway… aside from paper, hemp fiber can also be used to make earthquake resistant concrete that’s actually LIGHTER than conventional concrete while being stronger. It’s better at resisting flexing or warping, so ideal for stuff like bridges and highway supports as it’ll better resist large temperature swings and vibration. (”hempcrete” is slightly different, but makes great fire resistant insulation)

You can also use the waste after fiber harvest for animal fodder, including silage. Comparable to corn. and remember, that’s the waste after you’ve harvested for fiber!

It’s like “God” gave us the ULTIMATE plant and humans went “Nah, we’d rather suffer and make everything around us suffer, too.”
